AZT Day 13. October 17, 2016.
27.1 miles
AZT sobo mile 161.6 to 188.7
.5 mile north of Rabbit Tank to .3 miles north of Bismark Tank.
Camped at 8829 ft.
Total miles: 167.2
The wind was in my face all morning. I met Bill from Maine. He is the first AZT hiker I have met with a full pack.
Later I crossed paths with 31 middle school students from Flagstaff Junior Academy on mountain bikes riding 70 miles in 3 days. Flagstaff to Grand Canyon. 3 adult riders and 2 drivers of support vehicles. We should all be that fortunate to attend a school like that.
I finally got back into the trees (including aspen) and walked until almost dark.
Thank God for the shelter of the trees.
TREES! Yes we want views, but we also want shade and wind protection. As a bike rider and hiker, I have to say I’d rather hike in the wind. Ha you were complaining about 4 liters and 4 days food . . . I was carrying 6-8 liters and 5-6 days of food. Oh my poor shoulders and hips.
How? Oh, I know…. you are younger.
You might be getting soft with all that slack packing. Tee hee
It’s true.
