21.5 km South end of 6 Passes Alternate to start of climb of pass #6.
Everything about today was in the extreme zone. Extremely rewarding. Extremely gorgeous. Extremely perfect weather. Extremely steep ascents and descents. Extremely untouched… we saw no one, only a few footprints, no other sign of anyone having been here.
The 6 Passes Alternate has a total 2057m (6788 feet) elevation gain and 2597m (8570 feet) loss over 33 km (20.5 miles.) No trail, all cross country, mostly above treeline. Yay! We had a low resolution GPS track (I think that means a few waypoints from Google Earth and straight lines between them) and very limited additional info. The guidebook has one sentence for each pass. Robert, the sobo hiker we saw at The Crossing, said it was great.
We woke to clear skies and immediately started climbing the first pass.
300 meters/1000 ft later we were at the top.
.
Yay! Pass one, done.
.
And then we descended for another 300 meters. We did that over 5 passes. We have one left tomorrow. And then we keep climbing to a mountain top.
.
.
All day we had the Endless Chain Ridge to our left. It’s a spectacular unbroken wall of rock and extends the entire 6 Passes Alternate and beyond.

Pass 2
.

Looking back. What you can’t see is how low we had to drop between the passes.
.

Up to Pass 3

Top of #3 looking over to the next pass.

Pass #4

Just another down and up to #5
.

We followed this drainage most of the way up.

#5
.

Top of Pass #5. It’s time to find a campsite.
.
You two are an inspiration! Thanks for sharing.
Extremely gorgeous!
Spectacular! The Endless Chain is just amazing! It’s hard to comprehend that so much beauty was created by such violent forces.
Unbelievable! Those mountains are simply spectacular. Every day! What a journey for you two!
jaw dropping!
