GDT Day 8. July 13, 2018. Morning Views Afternoon Trees.

30.3 km
Camped at Open Area, 265.2 km

4:49am. It’s already a great day.

.
We woke to sweet morning light on surrounding Beehive Mountain.

A lake! We haven’t seen many of these.

.
We had some great views but also lots of steep up and down forest walking. It reminded me of the Appalachian Trail. I’m spoiled by the “easy” PCT. I seem to only take photos of the parts I like.

Both Rockin’ and I are big fans of the wide open high country. Neither of us like the “deep dark” as she calls it. So we made a point of climbing to what the app calls “Open Area” to camp. This required us to haul up the water we need for the night. It’s worth it even if the place we are camping doesn’t have the view we envisioned.

“4:49am. It’s already a great day.” -Great photo, but that is just a little too early, at least for me.
