AZT Day 24. Connected Footsteps… Back to Pine. October 29. 2016.
15.5 miles
Just before a creek at mile 322.2 to Pine Trailhead mile 337.7
Total miles: 298.4 miles
I was on the Highline Trail all day and it is definitely a highlight of the AZT. Views and lots of ups and downs. For many miles it meandered just under the Mogollon Rim and then dropped down to Pine Trailhead.
I thought that 15.5 miles with a net descent would be easy. It wasn’t. I was pretty exhausted by the end partially because I misjudged my water needs. Luckily it wasn’t that hot.
In 2010 my friend Jellybean and I ended our nobo AZT hike at Pine. Shorty and his green Explorer picked us up here. Today I walked to That Brewery and stayed at That Cabin. Two pints of Bearfoot Pale Ale and an elk-bison burger helped to refresh me.
What beautiful topography. I do love the environs in AZ. Did you see of the burn areas around the Mogollon Rim?
Wow – I never thought I would like this trail because its so hot but these posts made me want to hike it! Such great pictures and the sunsets are amazing! Great job!!!
