On to the Next Island. March 7, 2016.
After 2 days of eating and relaxing I am ready to walk. Today I am taking the ferry to Stewart Island. I plan to walk the Northwest Circuit. This is where I have the best chance of seeing a kiwi bird in the wild during the day. The circuit is 125 km and has huts. It is supposed to be hard, muddy and gorgeous. The difficulty, the spacing of the huts and the decreasing light hours makes it take 8 to 10 days. My pack is so heavy with food. Ugh!
you might want to tape your shoes to your feet to stop the mud sucking them off your feet, and take gaiters, preferably knee length, the mud is deep

I hope you spot a kiwi or two or three….. Enjoy the beach walks, the old forest and the lovely huts. Catch a sunrise at Akers Point once you get back to town. 🙂
Sorry, that should be Ackers Point.
Hey Nancy, Summer and I are in SF for a concert and I thought of you when Summer said she wanted to live in New Zealand some day. It looks like you are near the end of your hike. Enjoy!
Much Love,
