Day 106. Rose’s Hut. February 16, 2016

Day 106.  Rose’s Hut. February 16, 2016

10 km
Highland Creek Hut km 2625 to  Rose’s Hut km 2635

I woke up to rain about 6am. Procrastinating paid off because it wasn’t raining when I left the hut at 10. The weather improved throughout the day.

View from the hut at 7am.

There were 2 big climbs for the day which had lots of up and down to get to the top. I had views almost all day so I was in great spirits.

I can see Lake Wanaka

Today was one of those days where  the location of the huts dictate how far I walk. I got to Rose’s Hut at 2:30. It’s the last hut on this section.  Alex got here right after I did but kept walking because he had arranged a ride from Arrowtown,  25 more kilometers. Soon after 3 nobos from UK arrived. And then, who should appear but Leo who I have been crossing paths with on and off since my campervan hitch into Nelson.

Uff,what a breathtaking tour you are walking, dear Nancy!!   We always follow your adventures, either on Westcoast Trail or Alasca, now we”re in NZ. Reading about this wonderful country where you’ll  still climbing ,we’re not only thinking of our travelling once there, but we are full of admiring your strength and energy. All the best for the rest of the trip from Berlin  Jürgen and Irmhild. While visiting Gerhild for her 85.birthday 3 weeks ago,I showed her your photos then in Canada..Super,she was sailing there once and know the coastlines more,of course.best greetings from her, too.
