The Rakaia River

The Rakaia River is a huge braided river and so unsafe to cross that the official TA routing is to hitch around. It is listed as a hazard zone.  I needed more food anyway.

Methven is a great hiker town. It is small and easily walkable. It’s a ski resort town so it has great restaurants. The Mt Hutt Bunkhouse is great. I’m the only one in a 5 bed dorm room. Very nice.

Alex and Helen are here. Plus 2 other TA hikers. This afternoon Brett, Sean and Arno hitched back out to the other side of the river.
