Day 42. River day 2. December 14, 2015.

Poukaria Campsite to Mangawaiiti Campsite

8:30am to 7:30pm. My muscles aren’t used to this.

There weren’t as many rapids today. But it was more beautiful due to the narrower channels and steeper walls to the river gorge.

We saw 4 people leaving Ohauora as we got there for lunch. And then we got to John Coull Hut (24 bunks and 26 campsites and it was crawling with people. We stopped because we wanted to see the hut. It’s a Great Walk hut and is very nice. But it was way too crowded and we were happy to move on and paddle another 1 and 1/2 hour.

One couple was already at the campsite and Spencer from Canada was nice enough to come down the stairs and help us carry our stuff up the many stairs.

We are a group of 7 representing 6 countries. 5 English speaking countries….. USA, Canada, Australia, England and New Zealand. And one German who has to be confused by all the different Englishes.  It’s been fun to note the differences in how we use the same language. And how we pronounce the same words.
