Morel Madness – TRT Day 8

TRT Day 8 – 6/9/15
17.9 miles to just past hwy 89

Free Range, Cindy and John

Coffee and gourmet breakfast. What a way to start the day. We finally started hiking at 10:15. We crossed paths with another 15 PCT hikers and of course we had to talk to each one.

Constantly changing clouds made for dramatic skies. The forecast was 80% chance of rain. Several times we thought we were going to get dumped on. But except for a couple of sprinkles nothing happened.

We are still on the PCT and it it's way prettier than I remember

Late in the day I found a morel mushroom. Wired and Rockin’ laughed at my excitement but then helped me find more. My mosquito headnet suddenly became a multi use item.

Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus).... I think!

I am so proud of my haul. When I got home I weighed it.... 1.4 lbs.

We are now camped near hwy 89 in a surprisingly great spot. Flat, pine needles, cell service, sort of a view and 22.3 miles from the end and our cars.

Wired going for the perfect pitch.

Rockin and I split this HOT meal. Thai Style coconut curry with beef. Delicious.

Our last camp. FLAT and heavenly.
