Day 128 – 8/8/14

Day 128
8/8/14
31.1 miles
2194.5 total miles

One ridge had great views. I could see Mts Hood, Adams, Rainier and St Helens. Too far away for great pictures but it was great just being there.

I was walking in trees the rest of the day…. not my favorite type of hiking. I walk for views. I did find some chanterelles. Since I don’t have a stove there will be no eating.

I found a bolete mushroom.  Not sure which species.

I’m camped next to a dirt road with Lionheart. I was kind of disappointed when I got here. A surprise water cache was empty. There is always excited anticipation when you open a plastic bin and look inside and disappointment when it’s empty. About 2 minutes after I got here Toad drove up. He maintains this cache and was here to refill it. Score! Toad also maintains 12 miles of trail. I thanked him profusely.  It’s oh so nice when all the fallen logs have been cleared and the brush cut back. It is a lot of work to do that. So thanks. Toad also hiked the trail in 2 big chunks 2005 and 2006.

Nancy, I would like your permission to re-post the wonderful photo your recently posted of the Columbia River from the PCT on the website I maintain – http://www.pcttrailsidereader.com. It is a stunning photo.

I post photos and stories from the PCT from a variety of sources documenting the trail. This project is a labor of love for me and began with a couple of books of collected stories from the trail that I have continued with this on-line resource. I would include in my Intro a little about you, your hike, and a link to your blog. And, of course, let me know if you have any questions.

Nancy, the photo will post on August 19. If there are other quality photos or stories from your journey, send them my way! Hope all goes well in the home stretch.
