10 miles + 12 hitch
Northfork, WA
PNT Mile 395.5
10 x 10 is a thruhiker thing. 10 miles by 10am. I don’t reach that bar often. But today I walked 10 easy, flat and fast miles plus hitched 11 miles. I checked into the Columbia Cabins and sat down at the Mustang Grill across the street. All by 9:30am!
I passed by some interesting sights while walking in the road this morning.

I agree with half this sign.
Columbia Cabins are part of Lazy Daze Resort. Art gave me the small cabin rate even tho I was in the biggest one, Gramma Jo’s. It’s a great place. Even has a kitchen.
At the grocery store I bought an avocado. I want avocado toast for breakfast tomorrow. I really didn’t want to buy a whole loaf of bread. They make sandwiches there so I asked if I could buy 2 slices of bread. The owner searched around and found two ends and gave them to me. I bought a tomato also. Then I decided I wanted a banana too. When I went to pay for it the owner didn’t charge me. I’m pretty sure he thought I was homeless and penniless and not a hiker! I didn’t even try to explain to him.
Congrats on your 10 X 10 and all the other stuff you did and it wasn’t even 10 yet!
I’ve been catching up on your PNT adventure as I plan to hike it this year, if all goes well with COVID19 soon and we can travel by summer. Reading how you weren’t charged for food – possibly because he thought you were penniless – made me laugh out loud. I’m certain people wonder if I have any income when they see me in town during a thru-hike, too 🙂
