6am to 7pm.
Lake before Douglas Peak Pass to meadow after ford of North Fork Bull Lake Creek.
9.3 miles.
I’m so glad we didn’t decide to do Douglas Peak Pass yesterday. Today it was fun. Skurka describes the route as stunningly good next to the east wall. And it was. It was also steep and long and took a lot of energy.

View from Douglas Peak Pass into Alpine Lakes Basin. Note all the rock. Our next pass is directly ahead after we pass the 3 Alpine Lakes.
Much of the smoke cleared by morning and stayed away until the afternoon. We had some awesome views in the Alpine Lakes Basin and from Alpine Lakes ass overlooking Knifepoint and Bull Lake Glaciers. But the smoke came back as we were descending Alpine Lakes Pass and shrouded all views. Luckily the smoke cleared again about the time we set up our tents.
Speaking of energy….. I am definitely feeling the effects of so many continuous days of pushing myself for long hours over some incredibly hard terrain. I am counting down the days til we finish. Then I will rest.
We are camped in a place Skurka calls “sound of music setting.” It is.
That camp does say Sound of Music. But lots of hard work to get there.
Awesome views in this post!
