Day 58. And Now For Something Completely Different. December 30, 2015.
Zero kilometers
Do you want to ride a horse, Maori style? I think I was in college the last time I was on a horse. But it sounded intriguing so…. OK. Liz has a passion for horses and helps out a Maori guide, Mac. I love seeing passion in people and watching them in their world. Mac and Liz were so at home on their horses. Unlike me.
I got to ride Honey, a horse with attitude. He was definitely the boss of me. Mac gave each of us some basic riding instructions. Don’t squeeze your legs. Feet back. Stand up. All this is very helpful to not miserably bounce around when the horse runs. And those horses could run. I stood up and hung on.
A group of three joined us. An 8 year old girl, her mother and grandmother…. all somewhat timid. I think they were expecting a ride around the paddock. If it had only been Mac, Liz, Hurricane and me, we would have gone to the top of the ridge. Instead the ride was a bit tamer. That was OK by me.
It was a great way to spend another glorious sunny day in the Wellington area. The evening was spent enjoying another great dinner with Hurricane and Liz.
The last time I rode was at Alpine Meadows in Tahoe. It was a dorky nose to ass trail ride but my friends wanted to do it so I was a good sport.
Ha, ha. This was much more exciting.
