Day 54. Summer is here! December 26, 2015.

Otaki Forks Campground km 1587.5 to Waikanae km 1609.

I slept so well in my tent last night.

From the top of the main mountain we climbed today we could see the South Island. It’s so exciting to be this close. After lots of downhill I was on a paved road and back to easier walking.

Even before the paved road the trail became smooth and easy

It was hot today and really felt like summer is here.

I’m staying at the River Pa just outside of the town of Waikanae. A family with 6 grown siblings is having a family reunion here. It reminds me of my family. A shower and laundry were so needed after 4 days of sweat and mud.
