Twin Peaks and the PCT – TRT Day 6

TRT Day 6  6/7/15

21.5 miles to open area before the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail junction (the trail to Meeks Bay)

As promised, Rockin’ delivered hot water for my coffee at 6am. I could get used to this! As expected, we all had wet tents in the morning but had no trouble drying them out at Barker Pass at lunch.

Glorious morning

The high point of the day was climbing up Twin Peaks this morning. It is a short spur trail and rock scramble up to the top. We had the top to ourselves and stayed up there for quite awhile.

we are headed to Dick's Pass - the low spot in the snow to the far left.

Right after that the Tahoe Rim Trail joins up with the PCT and shares the trail for the next 50 miles. We had chosen to hike the TRT counterclockwise just so we might see and talk with some thruhikers. We saw 4 that had started at the Mexican border. They all said that crossing the Sierra was difficult…. 9 straight days of fresh snow. Not what any of them expected this drought year.

the tree looked like an old man and we are shaking his hand. Really, it did.

We got the best sunset of the trip tonight. We also got the most mosquitoes. So I am not cowboy camping. A tent is such a nice haven from those beasties.
