Day 116
7/27/14
28.6 miles
1982.3 total miles
My tent had lots of condensation by the morning. Not surprising since I camped right next to the lake. Got to Elk Lake Resort at 8am. I can’t believe they don’t open til 9. I talked to Jeff who lives in Bend and has been coming to the lake for years. Grasshopper (the one I hiked with for 800 miles) showed up as planned and was it ever great to see her after 2 months. We ate breakfast which was great and large… unlike what Yogi’s book says. Grasshopper hiked out with me for a couple of hours.
The trail continued by the Three Sisters.
I passed up one campsite at 7 which was pretty well situated for the sunset. I wanted to keep going….. so I did. The trail turned and went up and I thought I was going to be on the wrong side of the mountains. Then it turned back and it just got better and better. I would have loved to cowboy camp up there but it had been cloudy all day and the forecast was 20% chance of thunder showers. So I kept going. I was in the sunset.
The campsite I’m in is better protected from rain and wind but trees blocked a perfect view of the sunset. I climbed up the ridge to get a better view of the pink and purple sky. Very cool.
Isn’t that the Bob Marley monument?
Fantastic sunset!
