How to hike the Hat Creek Rim……
Definitely stop at the subway caves and walk thru them. Pick a day with a breeze. Stop half way and take a shower, do laundry, drink beer, eat lots, sleep in air conditioning and go back out the next day. Dreaming? No. That’s what we did.
The subway caves were a bit confusing and it took awhile to find the exit and entrance, and then the water faucet. It was totally cool in all sense of the word and we’ll worth the detour.
It was hot but luckily there was a breeze. I love that you can see both Mt Lassen and Mt Shasta from the rim.
My friend Elin works at the radio telescope array 4 miles from the cache at Rd 22. She met us at 3 and took us to her home. We got clean and then laid around while she waited on us. We got a tour of her work.
A perfect way to hike the rim.
