Day 52

5/24/14
20.9 miles (16.9 pct miles + 4 miles up Cottonwood Pass
767.2 total miles

Finally…. back on the trail….

We camped up at Horseshoe Meadows last night.  We were hoping for a meteor show but none of us saw anything. In the morning we had lots of condensation on our tents and sleeping bags. Ugh. I hate that.  It was the first time I set up my new tent I got in Tehachapi.  ZPacks Solplex. So far I like it.

We are really truly in the Sierra. Chicken Spring Lake is the first alpine lake and it was way too cold to go for a swim. Ghost’s husband Loren hiked with us to lake and then turned back to the car.

Most of the new snow from the recent storm is gone so there were no navigation issues. Plus our shoes stayed dry all day.

Clouds formed in the afternoon and it even rained and snowed a little bit. Tomorrow Spirit, Grasshopper and I had planned to hike up Mt Whitney which is an 18 miles side trip from the pct. Only Spirit has never climbed Whitney.  Because of the uncertain weather and the fact that we have a big day over Forrester Pass we decided to skip Whitney.

It’s clearing up so everyone but spirit is cowboy camping. It’s the first time for Ghost.
