Day 49, 50, 51- 3 More Zeros
May 21, 22, 23, 2014
Stuck at 745.4 total miles
I got an email from my friend Swami this morning. It contained the perfect quote from Emerson…..
“Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience.”
One lunch and 4 breakfasts at the Alabama Hills Cafe. Dinners at the Merry-go-Round, Mt Whitney Restaurant, the taco truck (the best). Food from the grocery store. Walking all over town. New hikers arriving and sharing their stories of walking thru snow. Checking weather reports. Beer… of course. That’s pretty much how we have spent our time. It’s sunny out now. Our packs are packed….. with bear canisters for the first time. Ugh! I hate those things.
Here’s the plan….. Davey from the hostel is driving us back to Horseshoe Meadows late this afternoon. We will cmp there and leave in the morning. Ghost Angel is joining us. We will try to summit Mt Whitney on Sunday. Then a couple days later we will hike out to Independence to get more food.
The snow should make everything even more beautiful up there. We are ready to hike!
Best of luck to all of you. Be safe.
How about bringing supplies up to the trailhead above Independence? Or would it be in the snow?
Not sure what you mean. We can’t leave food and stuff unattended at the trailhead. So we will need to hitch into Independence.
Nancy, Super envious. Years ago I hiked from Last Chance Meadow-New Army Pass-PCT-Whitney summit-Whitney portal. I’ll continue to live vicariously through you as you glide north past other memorable haunts – Kearsage Pass & 1000 Lakes Basin, and Devils Postpile to Tualome. Can I bring you a beer as you get near Tahoe? ETA?
Safe thoughts with you and the gang as you head into an amazing adventure. Patience takes wisdom!
