Day 47
5/20/14
9.4 miles to Trail Pass
745.4 total miles
26 degrees when we woke up. Poco Loco has a small thermometer on her pack. It was clear and calm. Where is the storm?
The miles went quickly and we exited the PCT at Trail Pass. When we got to the road there were NO cars. 22 miles to Lone Pine via a road walk is a long way. About 20 minutes after we started walking on the pavement a motor home appeared. The cutest Chinese couple stopped and agreed to take us to town. They had driven up to Horseshoe Meadows planning on day hiking. No other cars were there, they got nervous and started driving back down. Lucky us. The road dead ends at Horseshoe Meadows and is very steep and twisty.
First stop was The Alabama Hills Cafe for lunch.
We checked into the Dow Villa Motel. Lots of hikers are in town all avoiding the storm. The talk is all about how severe it will be, when it will hit, when it will end, what additional gear we need.
Hikers in town: Dustin (Milestone), Bigfoot, Charley Day Hiker, Timber, Patches, Ghost Angel, Jen, Gearslut, Nick, Milkjug, Turkey Feather. And when we got here Atlas was still here. We got to say goodbye again.
